Summer College Preview Program

The Carnegie Mellon, Qatar (CMUQ) Summer College Preview Program has been created to help students from Qatar and the surrounding region prepare for success in selective universities by providing a three-week introduction to university-level academic work that simulates the learning environment of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. The program is designed specifically for students entering Grade 11 (Juniors) and students entering Grade 12 (Seniors) who show strong academic potential and who aspire to join universities, such as Carnegie Mellon, where they will be academically challenged and intellectually engaged.

The Summer College Preview Program will be held in Education City from 29 June to 17 July 2008. The objectives of the program are as follows:

• To provide students with a realistic preview of what will be expected of them as college students.
• To motivate good students with academic potential to become excellent students by working harder when they return to their high schools.
• To improve skills in English and math as well as the ability to perform well on standardized tests required for college admission.
• To encourage students to take a proactive approach toward their studies.
• To simulate the rigorous academic environment and the approach to teaching and learning that students will find at selective colleges and universities.
• To lay the foundation for an ongoing relationship between local students and Carnegie Mellon Qatar.
