Mission and Values

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar will be a leader among educational and research institutions building on its century old traditions of innovation, problem solving and interdisciplinary collaboration to meet the changing needs of society.

Mission

Following the mission of Carnegie Mellon’s flagship campus in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar will:

  • create and disseminate knowledge and art through research and artistic expression, teaching and learning; and transfer intellectual products to society
  • serve our students by teaching them problem-solving, leadership and teamwork skills, and the value of a commitment to quality, ethical behavior, society and respect for one another
  • pursue the advantages provided by a diverse and relatively small university community, open to the exchange of ideas, where discovery, creativity, and personal and professional development can flourish

The specific goal of Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is to provide undergraduate programs in business administration, computer science and information systems to students in Qatar and the Gulf Region.

To this end, Carnegie Mellon Qatar will implement a total Carnegie Mellon curriculum by maintaining the academic standards, values and principles of Carnegie Mellon; providing a curricular program and a meta-curriculum parallel to those at Carnegie Mellon Pittsburgh; and delivering programs by Carnegie Mellon faculty with suitable adaptations of delivery and schedules for general conformance to the vision of Education City.
