The university is an independent non-profit organization operated by a Board of Trustees. Carnegie Mellon University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).
Carnegie Mellon has a holistic admission process that evaluates students on four main areas: high school performance, extracurricular contributions, demonstrated interest and standardized test results. Carnegie Mellon officials look for students who are a good fit for the university who will add to the overall Carnegie Mellon community. As an independent university, Carnegie Mellon's students are selected for admission solely by CMU officials.
The curriculum and the degree programs are identical to those same programs offered at the Pittsburgh campus, with faculty based in Qatar as well as long- and short-term residencies by Pittsburgh faculty. All faculty are appointed through their respective colleges on the Pittsburgh campus.
All graduates of Carnegie Mellon Qatar receive their degrees from Carnegie Mellon University. Students are awarded the same diploma in Qatar as on the main campus.
Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar is led by the dean and CEO, who reports directly to the executive vice president/provost of Carnegie Mellon University. All faculty and staff members are employees of Carnegie Mellon University under the leadership of the dean.
