Announcing the Release of CrashPlan PRO

CMU-Q Computing Services is pleased to announce the availability of CrashPlan PRO Backup solution for your convenience.  You can login to the new PRO server by clicking on "Login to CrashPlan" in the navigation pane on the left, and using your existing credentials.  Our intention, unless we uncover critical problems, is to use CrashPlan PRO for all faculty and staff computers in this coming spring semester 2012.

In the meantime, Computing Services will continue to backup computers with the current LiveBackup solution (Windows Only) for users with CMU-Q provided devices.  Those of you with Windows, Linux and Macintosh computers which are intended for research and/or CMU related work can feel free to go ahead and install the software on your computers and start backing up.  We recommend that you perform the initial backup on the CMU-Q Campus, for a faster backup time, as the first time you backup, your most like going to have a large amount a data to be protected.

The documentation on this website should help you in getting started or feel free to contact the Help Center at helpcenter@qatar.cmu.edu and we will be glad to assist you.

What's new?

Changes include:

  • Cross-Platform backup for Windows Mac and Linux users
  • Backup multiple machines and restore files from any of your machine to any of your machine
  • Easy and convenient web backup for remote restores

What's next?

We appreciate that this is a major change; Computing Services staff are available to help you as you get acquainted with the new service.  We encourage you to try CrashPlan out and forward any questions or concerns you have to helpcenter@qatar.cmu.edu
