Installing the Desktop Client

1)      Download the installer package to your desktop from

·         MyAndrew

2)      Double click on the Installer icon to launch it

3)      Accept the security warning and click “Run”

4)      On the “Welcome to the Crasplan Wizard” window click “Next”

5)      On the “End-User License Agreement” (EULA) Window click the “I accept the terms in the License Agreement” radio button and click “Next”


6)      Accept the default installation path in the “Select Installation Folder” window

7)      On the “Ready to Install” window, click “Install”

8)      Wait for the install process to finish

9)      On the “Completing the Crashplan Setup Wizard” window click “Finish”

 

 

Launching the Desktop UI

After a successful install, the CrashPlanPRO GUI should launch automatically, if not, launch by going to All Programs > CrashPlan > CrashPlan and enter the following Information:

1)      For new accounts (First time users)

Select “New Account”

Enter your first and last name

Enter your Qatar/Andrew ID

Enter and re-enter your Qatar Password

2)      Existing accounts (Returning users)

Select “Existing Account”

Enter your Qatar/Andrew ID

Enter your Qatar Password

 

Understanding the Desktop UI

Once the installation has been completed successfully, you should notice the following:

·         Server Status Indicator: indicates whether or not a connection is established with the PROServer and must be green at all times.

·         Activity Indicator: which indicates the current activity on the client computer which range from, scanning, backing now, backup complete and Next Backup in xx Minutes.

·         Directory to be backup: This is the home directory of the currently logged in user

·         Data size to be backed up: This shows how much data there is in your home directory to be backed up not counting excluded files, such as temp and system files, and files excluded by the sysadmin such as .iso and .dmg files. There is a storage limit of 200GB per user which can be spread over multiple machines.
