What can I do to prevent the spread of viruses including influenza?
- Practice good hand-washing techniques.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose or throat after coming in contact with environmental surfaces and after having contact with someone who is ill with the flu. Wash your hands after such contact.
- Cover your mouth and nose with tissues when coughing or sneezing, and dispose of used tissues after use. Wash hands after using tissues.
- Do not share eating utensils, glasses or cups.
- Wipe surfaces such as keyboards, counters, doorknobs, telephones with a cleaning solution after being used by someone with flu symptoms. An inexpensive solution of household bleach in a 1:10 ration with water is effective.
