November 20, 2011: The Impact of Climate Change on Food Security

The Carnegie Mellon Qatar campus, along with Qatar Foundation Sustainability Education, is pleased to host its first Campus Conversation event in the Student Center Ballroom, on Sunday, November 20, 2011.

About this Event:
If unchecked, global climate change could drastically alter the landscape of Qatar through increased temperatures, desertification, and shrinking landmass due to rising sea level.  These changes in turn would put pressure on Qatar's food security with scarcity of fresh water, loss of agricultural lands, and rapid depleting of fish and other sea life.  These issues are complicated by the challenge of merging our ever evolving understanding of the natural world with our personal practices and national policies.  With the clock ticking, postponing action may no longer be an option.  This Campus Conversation is designed to explore the link between climate change and food security, while identifying possible actions that we can take, both as individuals and as a group.
